vintage soriana sofa settee DESIGN AFRA AND TOBIA SCARPA FOR CASSINA 1970S

Introducing the Soriana Settee, a versatile and inspirational sofa that belongs to the Tobia Scarpa Soriana family. It is the smallest member of this wonderful collection. The Soriana settee, despite its small size, can comfortably seat three people due to its armrest-free design and compact 68" length. Often overlooked, it is a versatile option that can be paired with one or two chairs to create a cozy living space. It is also easy to move and can be combined with other Soriana chairs or chairs in different styles from the 1970s. Our latest addition is a medium-sized Soriana sofa that has been carefully restored and upholstered in high-quality grain leather. The color of the leather perfectly captures the essence of 1970s Italian design. The Soriana medium sofa is the ideal addition to your living room decor.

Discover the elegance of two medium vintage Soriana sofas that have been fully restored and newly upholstered with Italian aniline leather in a rich chocolate brown and cognac hue. One is also displayed with an ottoman. Both types of leather are perfectly suited for these sofas, as they are soft, versatile, and smooth - yet completely natural, allowing the beautiful folds to effortlessly grace the sofas.

Displayed below is a vintage Soriana Sofa settee that we have left untouched and sold in its original condition, allowing the new owner to choose the material for reupholstering. Upon comparison to our restored original pieces, you can observe a noticeable difference. Despite this one being in extremely good condition, the seat may seem slightly flattened, however, the structure remains robust and rust-free. Unfortunately, not all vintage are found in very good condition and intervention is necessary to restore the original beauty and shape.

The Soriana sofa, designed by Tobia Scarpa in 1969, was awarded the prestigious Compasso D'Oro award. This renowned design award originated in Italy in 1954 by the La Rinascente company, with an original idea from Gio Ponti and Alberto Rosselli. In the same year, other great Italian architects, including Franco Albini and Achille Castiglioni, were also recognized for their designs. The Soriana's unique concept was to encapsulate a whole bundle of fabric with a metal frame. This revolutionary design is still a preferred choice for some of the biggest designers’ and architects' homes even 50 years later. The collection included a lounge chair, medium sofa, larger version sofa, chaise lounge, and ottoman. Call our office to inquire about the availability of our vintage Soriana sofas.
