Fernando Castro Pacheco 'Muro De Avila' Painting 1981

Fernando Castro Pacheco 'Muro de Avila' 1981, mixed media and acrylic on canvas, 39.4" x 31.5" on a wooden frame. Sourced from an auction house in Italy.

Fernando Castro Pacheco (1918-2013) was a Mexican painter and illustrator popularly known for his murals representing the history and spirit of Mexico and its people. He was born in Merida and went to the Merida School of Fine Arts starting with painting and engraving. While in Merida he began working on several murals around the city. In 1943 he moved to Mexico; he was appointed director of the Esmeralda Normal College of Painting and Sculpture after his exhibits had gained fame from across the art world. In 1973, he returned to Merida as an internationally known artist, this helped him in getting a project from the city to paint murals of important figures of Maya and Mexican history. His most famous works are the murals from the Palacio de Government

When you first walk into the Palacio de Government, the Government plaza. The first painting you see is the “Social Evolution of Man in Yucatan.” In this mural, he highlights the “Golden Age” of the Maya with representations of worshiping the gods and the construction of Maya temples, the scene continues to show Chilam Balam, who depicted the Spanish Inquisition that was yet to come. In all of these murals you can identify certain elements that reflect Maya symbolism and social injustices such as indigenous oppression and enslavement during the henequen boom in the Yucatecan entity. Because the murals were not “produced and conceived on the walls, in relation to the architecture” his murals cannot be considered part of the traditional “Mexican Renaissance” of which muralist such as Diego Rivera and Jesus Guerrero Galvan are a part. Because they are painted on large canvas and from a unique perspective, the murals appear as large format paintings

On August 8, 2013 Fernando Castro Pacheco died at the age of 95, leaving an artistic legacy in drawings, watercolors, oils and sculptures that continue to amaze people every day

1950 "Carriages in Ischia" Oil Painting by Luigi De Angelis, Framed

Italian Painter Luigi De Angelis (1883-1966) 'Carriages in Ischia' oil on canvas painting, 1950, signed and dated on the lower ends. Framed. A delicate landscape evocative of the Italian post war countryside life in the island of Ischia, Italy.

Size : 29" w - 23" h - 1 1/2" depth

Luigi De Angelis, also called Gigi was born in Rome in 1883. Their parents were from the Island of Ischia where the family went back to live. He started to work as a barber in his early teenage years and then he opened his shop right on the pier. But when he turned 40 he had the idea to paint the exact image he saw every day in front on his eyes while working. He started depicting Ischia evocative scenes on watercolor and used his shave gel to hang the works in his shop. His shop clients where the first buyers of his poetic paintings until he was discovered by Hans Purrmann. When he was invited by a merchant to move to France, Gigi refused

because he knew well that, torn from his land, he severed the human relationships that bound him so intimately not only to his family and friends, but to the whole island: to fishermen, street vendors, wheelchairs, to the intimate and secret aspects of island landscape, he would have lost the very sources of his inspiration. Instead, he exhibited at various and public events throughout Italy. Between de Angelis and the island of Ischia there is a relationship very similar to that between Chagall and his village: Vitebsk. Like the great Russian painter, Gigi narrates the life and human events of his land, with a continuity of thematic commitment that transforms each single painting into the chapter of a vast popular poem, whose development has no solution of continuity and is like a compact block of poetry
